Google Trends' ‘Frightgeist' Lists LA's Top 5 Halloween Costumes

Frightgeist, a website powered by Google Trends, lists the top trending costumes in the country.

Planning a last minute Halloween costume? Or are you trying to rock a unique one this year? Google Trends has this handy reference: Frightgeist, a website that lists the top-searched costumes in the United States.

If you're planning to celebrate in Los Angeles this weekend, you have a really high chance of seeing people in "Stars Wars" costumes this year, which, according to Frightgeist, is the No. 1 trending costume search in the area.

The other top trending costumes in LA (in ascending order) are Harley Quinn, pirates, Batman and Minnie Mouse.

From the top 500 costume searches in the United States, Frightgeist uses Google Trends to show which costumes are trending nationally and locally.

The sudden rise in "Star Wars" costume searches may be due to the recent official trailer release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the seventh installment of the main "Star Wars" films series.

"Star Wars" costumes rank No. 2 nationally behind Harley Quinn, a DC comic book character.
