Man Allegedly Wielding Gun Shot By Police in Panorama City

The fatal shooting of a man alleged to be armed with a gun was caught on body cameras Tuesday in Panorama City and may help answer what happened before the officer-involved shooting occurred.

Officers had been called to the area of Roscoe Boulevard and Willis Avenue around 2:47 p.m. to investigate a report of someone disturbing the peace, according to the LAPD.

The officers saw a man, identified as Florencio Chaidez, 32, matching the suspect's description.

The officers located the suspect in the 14000 block of Parthenia Street and saw he was holding a gun. That's when the officer-involved shooting occurred, said LAPD Lt. John Jenel.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fredi Guardado said he witnessed the shooting but did not see the suspect take out his gun.

Police said the officers involved were wearing body cameras, but police said the video will not be released to the public.

The city began providing body cameras to Mission Station officers earlier this month.

LAPD said it is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting and conducting interviews with witnesses and the officers.

Police said Parthenia Street would remain closed between Cedros and Kester Streets until about 3 or 4 a.m.
