Border patrol officers say a Molotov cocktail was thrown at them Wednesday by a 39-year-old United States citizen crossing into the U.S. on foot to San Diego.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested the man at the San Ysidro port after he approached the vehicle lanes in between the international boundary and inspection booths, officials said.
The man allegedly threw the large fireball that landed about a yard away from four officers and an inspection booth on the western side of the port, authorities said.
The man was quickly taken into custody and the fire was extinguished by a fire extinguisher.
Lane 23 was closed as officials investigated the incident, officials said.
The man was booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center. His name was not released.
