A man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of killing a woman that had been his longtime partner, wrapping her in plastic and storing her body on the back seat of a car in a driveway in Whittier, according to police.
The body of the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was discovered in the backseat of a vehicle owned by Luis Rey Jimenez-Jimenez in the driveway of his residence in the 8700 block of Orange Street at 9:05 p.m. Saturday, according to Deputy Dangelo Robinson.
Detectives said they believe the woman was killed a week ago by Jimenez-Jimenez.
Deputies made the discovery during a welfare check on the woman who lives at the location, Deputy Tracy Koerner said.
The suspect, who had been the woman's partner for 18-plus years, told authorities the woman had left a week prior, according to Lt. Derrick Alsred of the LA County Sheriff's Deparment. The woman's body was found bound with tape and plastic and covered with various packages in a vehicle parked in the driveway, according to Alsred.
She suffered injuries to her head, and it was determined that the man killed the woman in a fit of rage, according to the lieutenant.
The woman's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
