2 Men Sought in Shooting Death of Man, Assault of Another in Long Beach

Two men were being sought in connection with the shooting death of a man and the assault of another man in separate incidents in Long Beach on Wednesday night, police said.

Multiple residents reported hearing gunshots around 11 p.m. in the 1600 block of Pine Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police responded and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. The man, described as a Long Beach resident in his 40s, was transported to a hospital where he died, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police found a bicycle at the scene and believe the victim may have been riding his bike.

After the shooting, police said the suspects ran eastbound on 16th Street and approached a man from behind before hitting him in the head with gun. The victim was knocked down but did not lose consciousness. The two men fled the east on 16th Street, police said.

The two victims were not believed to have any ties, police said. 

A motive was unknown. A description of the shooters was not immediately available.

Homicide detectives were asking residents on 16th Street between Pine and Locust avenue to report if they saw anything or have security camera video that may help the investigation.
