Man Fatally Shot Near South Gate

Investigators were searching for the gunman who fatally shot a man near South Gate early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The shooting was reported around 1:42 a.m. in the 1900 block of Firestone Boulevard in the Florence area, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"A lot of bangs," said witness Anthony Nash of the gunfire.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in front of Graham Library.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he died.

Witnesses said the victim was walking eastbound along Firestone Boulevard when a dark-colored vehicle approached the victim and a man inside fired a handgun several times at the victim, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The circumstances that led up to the fatal shooting were unknown.
