Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputies are actively searching for a suspect in the shooting of an unarmed man near Highway 39 just north of Azusa.
It happened near mile marker 20.22 on San Gabriel Canyon Road just off Highway 39 around 1:30 a.m.
A witness said he was driving up Hwy 39 when he saw the victim lying in the street and called 911. When paramedics arrived, the victim was going in and out of consciousness.
Paramedics stabilized the 20-something victim and airlifted him to County/USC Medical Center where he was rushed into surgery with three gunshot wounds.
Investigators say a dark-colored BMW was seen in the area around the time of the incident and are asking anyone with information to call the LA County Sheriff's San Dimas Station. They hope to gather more information from the victim after surgery, including a possible motive.
