Man Running Across Lanes Killed on 5 Freeway

A man of between 20 and 30 was killed Wednesday morning on the Golden State (5) Freeway in the Cypress Park area. The scene left several lanes blocked during the start of the morning commute.

The accident on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway at the Los Angeles River was reported at about 4:30 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer David Porter. The man was declared dead at the scene, Porter said. His name was not
immediately released.

According to reports received by the CHP, the victim may have been running across the freeway lanes when he was struck.

The No. 2, 3, and 4 northbound lanes were blocked to accommodate an investigation, Porter said. The No. 2 lane was re-opened about 5:35 a.m., and the remaining lanes were re-opened about an hour later, the CHP reported.
