Man Strangled at Lakewood Home

Homicide detectives were investigating the death of a man strangled at a Lakewood home early Tuesday.

Deputies received a call about 3:30 a.m. of a man not breathing in the 6200 block of Carpintero Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. When they arrived, the found the man unresponsive.

A man who lives at the location with his 90-year-old mother told deputies he witnessed another man kill the victim. He claims he drove the killer to another location, dropped him off, and returned to the home to call 911.

The victim was identified only as a Hawaiian Gardens resident in his 20s.

Deputies said no arrests had been made and there was no sign of a break in or struggle inside the home.

The witness was cooperating with investigators.

“Our witness is being cooperative at the station now," said Lt. Steve Jauch. "Obviously homicide detectives will do a detailed interview with the witness later and see if they can pin him down on details.”

Neighbors said they have never seen anything unusual at the home and no one who spoke with NBC4 said they heard anything unusual overnight.
