Man Struck and Killed by Blue Line Train

A man on a bicycle was fatally struck and dragged Thursday by a Metro Blue Line train in Long Beach, fire and transit officials said.

The crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. near the Wardlow Station, said Jose Ubaldo of the MTA.

The victim, identified only as a Hispanic man in his 30s, had been traveling eastbound on a bike when he was struck by a northbound train near Pacific Avenue and Wardlow Road, said Matt Dobbertuhl of the Long Beach Fire Department.

"He was dragged several hundred feet and was dead upon our arrival," Dobbertuhl said.

Ubaldo said trains are experiencing a 15-minute delay, and that is expected to be longer. Buses will be shuttling passengers between the Wardlow and Willow stations.
