Man Free on Bail Allegedly Attacks Ex

A man who was free on bail on charges of raping a Ladera Ranch woman after they split up was arrested Monday on suspicion of
attempted murder for allegedly beating her head against a curb near her home.

Mark Alan Jarosik, 46, of Trabuco Canyon, was arrested about 8 a.m. outside the home of the victim, who was attacked when she went outside to get her mail, said Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Witnesses who heard the woman's screams rushed to help her and held Jarosik until deputies arrived, Amormino said.

Jarosik and the woman, who is in her 40s, had gone out together but recently broke up, Amormino said.

She was taken to a hospital with severe head trauma and was listed in serious condition, Amormino said.

On May 16, Jarosik was arrested and later charged with rape and attempted sodomy. On Friday, he pleaded not guilty to those charges in a Newport Beach courtroom. He posted $100,000 bail on Saturday night, just before midnight, and was released.

At 10:15 a.m. Sunday morning, someone tried to break into the woman's home but was scared off by her screams, Amormino said.

The suspect was never located or identified, but authorities believe it was Jarosik, the spokesman said.

Jarosik is now being held without bail, Amormino said.
