At least part of a busy hospital in east Hollywood was temporarily without water Wednesday due to a water main break, authorities said.
Patients may not have cause for worry, but the same can't be said for motorists. Authorities said they expected that repairs would take most of the day and could affect the afternoon commute.
Traffic is being diverted off Edgemont. Lanes are closed on Sunset.
The 8-inch main near Sunset Boulevard and North Edgemont Street broke about 4 a.m., said DWP spokesman Brooks Baker. The small pipe connects to a 24- inch pipe, which had to be shut down, said Baker.
The burst line almost exclusively serves Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center at 4867 W. Sunset Blvd., according to the spokesman.
"Surgeries that were under way continued," said Jim Anderson, a spokesman for the hospital, who added that there was "no significant impact to patients."
