Miley Cyrus: “This is Just Who I Am”

Cyrus completes tour of Big Apple with "Today" performance.

Miley Cyrus says she is not the "wrecking ball" the critics and headlines portray her to be, but is actually happy with her life and excited about her new album, "Bangerz."

"This is just who I am," she told "Today's" Matt Lauer Monday morning. "It's only hard if you're trying to be something you're not. Being who you are is really easy, if you're true to that."

Flanked by dancing mushrooms, she performed "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball" before returning to her old hit, "Party in the USA," to raucous applause.

From her very provocative, tongue-wagging and finger-foam wielding twerking performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards to her recent feud with artist Sinead O'Connor, the former lead on Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana" has redefined the transition from child star to adult artist.

The headlines only seem to propel her to adult stardom, starting with her host appearance over the weekend on "Saturday Night Live" to her performance on "Today" Monday morning. Her tour of New York comes less than two weeks after the world's biggest twerking party hit New York's Herald Square, where hundreds gathered to 'Twerk' in the USA and danced their way to the Guinness World Record books.

Cyrus is not worried about revamping her image, and told the "Today" show she has no regrets.

"I can't change anything, can't go back," she said. "I can do a lot of things, but I can't change the past. … I just live my life the way it is, and I don't really regret anything."
