Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man suspected of abducting a child from a backyard Friday in an unincorporated area of Monrovia.

The 6-year-old victim, previously reported as being 10, was able to get away from his alleged abductor, according to the sheriff's department.

The victim was playing in his backyard when a suspect, between 18 and 40 years of age, picked him up and ran with him to a nearby apartment complex, sheriffs recounted. The suspect was covering the mouth of the victim with his hand, when the victim bit him.

Sheriffs say the boy then ran from the scene and returned to his home safely.

The suspect is described as being Hispanic or African American.
