A 24-year-old Los Angeles woman pleaded no contest Monday to second-degree murder in the death of her 21-day-old son, who died of blunt head and neck trauma.
Calixta Landa, who is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, is expected to be sentenced March 12 to 15 years to life in prison.
On July 14, 2016, family members noticed that the infant was pale and limp in his bassinette. The baby was taken to a hospital, where medical personnel said he was underweight and suffering from brain and neck injuries, according to prosecutors.
Two days later, Sebastian Landa was pronounced dead.
Prosecutors said the fatal injuries were inflicted by his mother, but provided no further details.
