New Lead in Case of Missing Fox Exec Gavin Smith

Gavin Smith has not been seen since May 1, 2012.

Discovering a lead that seemingly came out of nowhere, drug agents on Wednesday morning found a Hummer H2 belonging to a suspected drug dealer at the scene of a marijuana bust in Granada Hills.

But the real blockbuster was the car’s connection to the case of missing Fox executive Gavin Smith, who was last seen on May 1 leaving a friend's house in the Oak Park area.

"He (John Creech) remains a person of interest in the investigation into the disappearance of Gavin Smith," said Ty Labbe, a homicide detective with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Creech's wife, Chandrika, may have had an affair with Smith. Creech is in jail on the drug charges, but he was free when Smith, a former UCLA and University of Hawaii basketball player, vanished in May 2012.

Last June, the Creech home was searched and an Audi SUV was impounded, but Creech's Hummer could turn out to be the key to the case.

"We have suspicions that it very well might be," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore. "But homicide detectives are going to go through it top to bottom to see, in fact, if there is any evidence in it."

Detectives have the Hummer now, but there's still a missing piece of the puzzle: a black Mercedes that was being driven by Smith when he left the Oak Park home is still missing.
