A newborn baby was safely turned over at a fire station in Orange on Friday, less than a week after another infant was handed over in Los Angeles, authorities said.
The child in Orange was turned over about 1:55 p.m. and received a full medical evaluation from paramedics, according to Orange Fire Department Capt. Casey Fieldhouse.
Authorities announced earlier Friday that a newborn girl was safely turned over at a Los Angeles hospital on Monday.
The baby girl was the first infant surrendered in Los Angeles County this year and the 143rd since the program's inception, according to the office of Supervisor Don Knabe.
"Thanks to this mother's courage, a baby girl now has a second chance at life and the opportunity to grow up in a loving family," Knabe said.
Under the Safe Surrender law, a parent or guardian is allowed to surrender an infant who is no more than three days old at a hospital or fire station without repercussions if the baby shows no sign of abuse.
