Newborn Girl Pronounced Dead After Being Found in Azusa Dumpster

Police searched for clues Thursday in the death of a newborn girl found in a trash bin behind an apartment complex in Azusa.

"At the time, when they (police officers) found her motionless, there were no signs of life, which is why they immediately began the life-saving measures," Lt. Robert Chives of the Azusa Police Department told reporters at the scene.

The infant was found about 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of East Fifth Street, police said.

The baby's mother was taken to a hospital because she had just given birth, police said.

Police encouraged anyone struggling with a pregnancy to look up a safe surrender location in Los Angeles County.

"(Because) there are people out there that are willing to come in and help and provide resources for you if you are not able to handle it on your own," Chives said.
