A police investigator says that a man from Oakland, Calif., was shot to death during Trinidad's famed Carnival celebrations.
Sgt. Michael Veronique says 29-year-old Levon Lyons was killed by another man after leaving a Carnival party early Sunday in the capital, Port of Spain.
Veronique said Monday he could not release more specifics, citing an ongoing probe.
The Trinidad & Tobago Express reports that the shooting was witnessed by a police officer, and it says a Canadian man and a British woman are assisting detectives. There have been no arrests.
Trinidad's annual celebration was expected to draw 1 million revelers -- nearly doubling the Caribbean nation's population of 1.2 million.
