Witnesses described "a terrible sight" after the man tried to run from the gunman

A man standing at a bus stop outside of a Norwalk restaurant was shot and killed Sunday night after a gunman got out of a van and opened fire.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired about 6:20 p.m. in the 13200 block of Rosecrans Avenue, where they found a man in his 40s who suffered multiple gunshot wounds. according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Norwalk Station.

The man was waiting at a bus stop when the driver of a white van parked, got out of the vehicle and opened fire.

"The individual was shot and tried to run, and he ended up falling down," LA Sheriff's Lt. John Corina told NBC4.

The man was found dead on the ground outside the Marquez Restaurant. The gunman returned to the van and drove south on Claressa Street.

"The guy was laying down in the driveway, it was a terrible sight," witness Al Hernandez said. "God rest his soul. I'm sure they're going to get the guys that did it."

Detectives believe the victim may have ties to a gang in the area but were not sure whether the shooting was gang-related.
