OC Experiences Another Power Outage

Part of southern Orange County was without electricity Sunday, but it was not clear if the latest problems were related to last week's massive blackout  or this weekend's thunderstorms.

At midday, 228 customers were without power in San Diego Gas & Electric Co.'s Talega area, in San Clemente.

The power went out at 8:50 a.m. and was originally expected to return at 12:30 p.m., according to an automated SDG&E web site. But workers were still in the area at 2 p.m., and the company said power might be restored by 2:30.

A pair of outages in San Diego left another 596 accounts there without power. Those outages began at 6:27 a.m., and power was expected to return by 5 p.m.

San Diego neighborhoods that were affected included the Centre City, Mission Hills, Hillcrest, Balboa Park, Golden Hills and Old Town areas.

No SDGE spokesperson was available to explain the outages.

On Thursday, a massive power outage knocked out electricity for nearly 1.4 million customers in San Diego as well as parts of Southern Orange County, Palm Springs, and parts of Mexico.

The outage was triggered by a malfunction in a switchyard at Yuma, Ariz.

SDG&E was eventually able to restart the system but it took several hours to restore power to all customers.
