House Fire Kills Dogs, Injures Firefighters in Orange County

Seven dogs lived at the residence, but four died in the blaze.

A fire broke out in an Orange County home, killing four dogs and sending two firefighters to the hospital, the Orange County Fire Authority said Wednesday.

The garage was so cluttered that it delayed firefighters from getting inside the home in the 2600 block Larkstone, authorities said.

Seven dogs lived at the residence, but four died in the blaze.

"The residents were evacuated, but they did find four deceased dogs inside," said Capt. Casey Fieldhouse of OCFA.

Firefighters also said drug paraphernalia was found inside the home, but the homeowner disputes this statement.

The homeowner, Tony Margarites, said he was having electrical worked done when the blaze broke out.

"The next thing you know I see smoke," Margarites said. "And then the guy disappears and my house is on fire and I’m stuck with no insurance."

Neighbor Eleanor Nadal said she heard popping noises and then watched as the flames raced through the garage.

"The flames were like 12 feet above the house,” Nadal said. “It’s the first thing I have ever seen that was that intense."
