O.C. Tea Party Member Sends Picture of Obama as Ape

Obama attacked via email

The O.C Weekly obtained a copy of an email sent by Marilyn Davenport, a Southern California Tea Party activist and member of the central committee of the Orange County Republican Party.

The email titled, “Now you know why no birth certificate," was sent to a small number of fellow conservatives and had an image attached of Obama’s face photoshopped on to the youngest member of an apparent family of apes. Davenport claimed the attached picture was just a “joke” and only meant to be viewed by a small number of people.

The picture, at the very least inappropriate, is being labeled as deeply offensive, totally despicable and downright racist by many people and condemned by numerous Republicans.

However, Davenport responded to the Weekly, "Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people--mostly people I didn't think would be upset by it."

Davenport reportedly is looking for identity of “the coward” who supplied the email to the Weekly and is blaming the media for “making this a big deal.”
