One Man Killed, One Wounded in Shooting in Maywood

One man was killed and a second wounded in a shooting Monday in Maywood.

The shooting occurred about 3:35 p.m. in the 5900 block of Flora Avenue, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez.

Deputies from the sheriff's East Los Angeles Station responded to the location regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, Navarro-Suarez said.

Arriving deputies saw Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics rendering aid to the man who was pronounced dead after arriving at a hospital, she said.

The man had at least one gunshot wound to the upper body, Navarro-Suarez said.

"A short time later, deputies were notified of a second gunshot victim reported at a nearby hospital,'' she said. That man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso but had stable vital signs and was expected to survive, she said.

Information about motive and suspect or suspects was not available, Navarro-Suarez said.
