Editor's Note: The Orange County Sheriff's Department later determined that the door hangers were legitimate notices. They have recalled the scam alert.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department has issued a scam alert, warning residents of fake collections door hangers.
Laguna Hills police posted the "scam alert" to Instagram on Tuesday. The photo features a green door hanger which appears to be a final notice from Cox Communications. Except it isn't, police say.
The fake notice warns the resident that their service will be disconnected unless they make a payment.
