Ordinary Citizens Honored for Extraordinary Acts

Regular people who performed extraordinary acts of valor were recognized for their bravery Thursday.

One such hero, Kathleen Khalid of Van Nuys, helped thwart a bank robbery. The 48-Year-old mother was waiting for her son outside a bank when she heard gunfire.

The unlikely hero didn’t hesitate and jumped into action. Khalid ran inside the bank and jumped on the back of the would-be bank robber and tried to take away the weapon.

Ryan Bertrand and Jeff Beaudoin were also honored. The two men helped stop an attack in North Hollywood back in 2007.

Ronald Thompson, of Reseda, was the fourth honoree. Thompson was on a bus when he a witnessed a man beating an elderly victim in a road rage incident.

Thompson instructed the bus driver to let him off and stopped the assault. The suspect in his haste to flee injured the good Samaritan when he struck him in the leg with his car.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office’s Courageous Citizen Awards are given to people who have acted at considerable personal risk to help a victim, help capture a suspect and to those who have testified in court, knowing that it might put them in peril.
