A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department employee and father of two children was killed Tuesday morning in a Pasadena shooting that left another victim wounded.
The deceased victim's identity, 49-year-old Victor McClinton, was confirmed Wednesday morning by the LA County Sheriff's Department. McClinton worked as a law enforcement technician assigned to court services administration.
He is survived by his wife and two children. McClinton, a youth athletics coach, worked for the sheriff's department since January 1994.
He founded the Brotherhood Community Youth Sports League about 15 years ago, neighbors told NBC4.
"I just looked out the window and saw that 'Coach' was hit," said neighbor Lorraine Valenzuela, whose children were coached by McClinton.
Police received 911 calls at about 11 a.m. Tuesday from people who reported the sound of gunfire. Responding officers found two victims -- McClinton and 24-year-old Damion Taylor -- in the 1900 block of Newport Avenue, police said.
McClinton -- who was standing 50 yards away from Taylor -- was pronounced dead at a hospital. The fatal shot appeared to be a stray bullet, said LA County Sheriff's Spokesman Steve Whitmore.
Taylor, who was sitting in a car at the time of the shooting, remained hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, Pasadena Police Chief Phillip Sanchez said.
Sanchez described Taylor as a "gang associate."

"It's tragic, it's Christmas," said Lt. Tracey Ibarra, of the Pasadena Police Department. "We don't know if there was anything that occurred prior. It does appear that neither victim knew each other."
A preliminary investigation indicated that McClinton was not the target of the shooting. Candles were placed at the site of his slaying Wednesday morning.
Police were attempting to determine whether the vehicle involved in a crash that killed two people late Tuesday was the same vehicle described by shooting witnesses. Also, investigators retrieved a firearm discarded during the chase.
"During the pursuit, one of the occupants discarded a loaded handgun that was later recovered by Pasadena police officers," police said in a statement.
Four people -- 22-year-old Darryl Williams, 21-year-old Brittany Washington, 22-year-old Demauria Hannah and 18-year-old Jada Mays -- were in custody in connection with the deadly crash.
Detectives were interviewing witnesses late Tuesday night and the investigation is ongoing.
