Paul McCartney Receives Star

In front of the Capital Records building Thursday, Paul McCartney became the final Beatle to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Paul McCartney became the final Beatle to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Thursday, two days after the release of his latest album, "Kisses On The Bottom."

McCartney's star, the 2,460th, is alongside his fellow Beatles, Ringo Starr and the late George Harrison and John Lennon, in front of the Capital Records building on Vine Street.

During the ceremony McCartney thanked his former band mates, drawing cheers from the hundreds of fans gathered for the event.

"Way back in history, in Liverpool when we were kids and we were listening to Buddy Holly and all the rock 'n' roll greats, I would have never thought that the day would come when I'd be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That was like an impossible thing to happen. But here we are today, and it's happening," McCartney said.

Rocker Neil Young helped introduce McCartney, saying the former Beatle was "at the top of his game."

"Not only was he playing differently because he played it left handed, he played notes that no one had put together before," says Young.

Some fans waited four hours for the big event.

"Missed him in concert," says fan Avery Meyers. "Glad I made it here."

The ceremony came one day before McCartney, 69, is honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year at a gala at the Los Angeles Convention Center and three days before he performs at the Grammy Awards at Staples Center.

"I couldn't have done it without, certainly, three boys -- so I want to say thanks to those guys, John, George and Ringo," says McCartney. "I couldn't have done it without them, so I want to thank those guys and bless them for being in my life."

Lennon was the first Beatle to receive a star. The ceremony was held Sept. 30, 1988, nearly eight years after his death.

Harrison also received his star posthumously. The ceremony was held on April 14, 2009, also nearly eight years after his death and coinciding with Capitol Records announcing plans for a new Harrison music release.

Starr received his star on Feb. 8, 2010, the 50th anniversary of groundbreaking on the Walk of Fame.

The Beatles as a group received a star on the Walk of Fame at 7080 Hollywood Blvd. on Dec. 25, 1998.
