No Explosive Device Found in Mid-City After Bomb Squad Response

The suspected pipe bomb turned out to be drug paraphernalia

Federal agents serving a search warrant drew a police bomb squad to the Mid-City scene after they believed they found a pipe bomb Wednesday morning.

The device turned out to be drug paraphernalia, possibly equipment used for drying marijuana, according to FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller of the agency's Los Angeles office.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s bomb squad had responded to the 5100 block of Washington Boulevard (map) after being called to the scene about 7:40 a.m., according to LAPD spokesman Richard French, who said the FBI had been serving search warrants at the site.

Aerial video showed an older apartment complex with multiple police units in front of the scene, and well as FBI investigators in the area.

Police and agents also seemed to be focused on a room in the small Reno Motel next to the apartment complex.
