The burning wreckage started a 12-acre brush fire near Agua Dulce

Two men escaped the burning wreckage of a small plane Sunday night after it crashed in steep terrain and sparked a 12-acre brush fire north of Los Angeles

The men were airlifted to Henry Mayo and treated for minor injuries after the fiery crash near Sleepy Valley. The Stinson 108-3 left Agua Dulce Airport on its way to a dirt landing strip about two miles northwest when the pilot crashed during an aborted "off-airport landing," according to a Federal Aviation Administration official.

The crash and fire were reported at about 6:30 p.m. near Steele Street and  Sierra Highway.

The brush fire burned about 12 acres. Crews were monitoring hot spots early Monday.
