Parolee Arrested After 2 Officer-Involved Shootings

Police were searching Wednesday morning for a parole violator who assaulted a motorcycle officer during two separate officer-involved shootings in Torrance on Tuesday night.

The incident started when patrolling officers attempted to stop a vehicle with two suspects inside on Hawthorne and Artesia Boulevards at around 7 p.m.

The suspects sped off, and a pursuit resulted.  Investigators say the suspects then drove the wrong way on Hawthorne Boulevard and intentionally ran head-on into a Torrance motorcycle officer.  That officer jumped off his motorcycle and the first officer-involved shooting took place.  The suspects sped away from the crash scene.

Police say the chase continued until the suspects crashed into a tree a few miles away on Van Ness and 164th Street.  The second officer-involved shooting happened there, but investigators say the men got out of the car and ran into a nearby neighborhood.  Police searched the area and arrested one of the suspects a few hours later in the back yard of a home.

The second suspect is described as a white man in his 20s with a shaved head wearing all dark clothing. Investigators say the motorcycle officer involved in the crash was not hurt.
