Police Arrest Father Wanted in Death of Infant Daughter

Authorities have searched for the man since Saturday, when his 10-month-old daughter died during a fight between the man and his wife

A South Gate man wanted in connection with the death of his 10-month-old daughter was apprehended in Mexico Monday night, the LA Times reported.

Jose Deras, 20, was being held by authorities in Mexico City pending extradition requests, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said, as reported to the LA Times.

Authorities had been searching for Deras since Saturday.

On that day Deras alledgely got into a fight with his wife at their home in the 5100 block of McCallum Avenue, according to sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker.

His infant daughter died of unspecified "blunt force trauma" wounds suffered during the fight, according to sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker.

Deras was born in El Salvador, and it was unclear if he is a United States citizen.
