Police Try to Determine: Accident or Crime in Barroom Death

The 54-year-old victim was buried Friday

San Bernardino police weren’t sure whether Arthur Almaraz died as the result of a crime.

Almaraz, 54, suffered a head injury on Nov. 29 while he was helping to close the sports bar Pool Club where he worked.

Some reports suggested he was hurt while trying to break up a fight outside the bar, while others indicated he fell and hit his head.

The head injury was so severe that Almaraz was hospitalized the next day and died 20 days later.

Earlier this week, police announced they wanted to talk with a person who had been a customer at the bar that night. They located him Friday, but they were not saying what he told them and the person has not been labeled a suspect.

Pool Club owner, Art Hakimian, has been questioning the death.

"He had a lot of friends and no enemies so what happened to him was unfortunate and unjust," said Hakimian.
