Police: Man Tried to Lure Girls at Burbank Library

Arraignment is set for Tuesday for a Los Angeles man accused of trying to kidnap two 10-year-old girls in Burbank, authorities said Monday.

Rainer Russel Rickford, 49, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of attempted kidnapping with the intent to commit a lewd act with a minor, Sgt. Robert Quesada of the Burbank Police Department said. Rickford was booked at Burbank City Jail and was being held on $500,000 bail.

Rickford allegedly approached the girls at the Burbank Public Library, 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd, about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Quesada said. He told the girls he had a dog in his car and wanted them to pet it,  Quesada said. He also offered them snacks.

The girls became frightened and reported the alleged incident to the librarian, Quesada said. Police investigated and arrested the suspect a short time later. Officers reported that Rickford had a motor home parked near the library with license plates removed and keys in the ignition.

Rickford is to be arraigned Tuesday at Burbank Superior Court, Quesada said.
