Police: Probationers Caught Red-Handed in Hemet Break-In

HEMET, Calif. -- A burglar alarm alerted police Monday to a break-in at a Hemet clothing store, where a 19-year-old man and juvenile, both probationers, were arrested, police said.

An officer arrived at the store in the 1900 block of East Florida Avenue just before 2 a.m. and found two red-handed suspects, according to police.

A 3-by-4-foot panel on a door had been removed, and the suspects had gathered more than $1,200 worth of clothing, police said.

Gary Elliott, 19, of Hemet, was booked on suspicion of burglary, as was the 16-year-old, who was taken to a juvenile lockup, police said. Elliott went to Riverside County jail, where he was being held on $50,000 bail.

Elliott was on probation for a robbery conviction, and the juvenile for burglary, police said.
