Police Search for Masked Gunmen in Jewelry Heist

Three masked gunmen robbed a salesman of an estimated $1.5 million in jewelry

Police in Santa Monica are searching for three masked masked suspects who robbed a salesman in a parking lot next to the Veggie Grill, according to the Santa Monica Daily Press.

The take? An estimated $1.5 million worth of jewelry.

At least one of the men had a gun. The robbery happened around 2:30 p.m.

The victim was visiting local jewelry stores Tuesday in an attempt to sell some merchandise, according to SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis as reported by the Santa Monica Daily Press. After lunch at the Veggie Grill, he returned to his car.

That's when police said three men wearing masks suddenly appeared and surrounded the vehicle, reports the Santa Monica Daily Press. Two men smashed the driver's side and passenger's side windows.

At least one pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim, according to the Daily Press, while a second suspect reached into the car and took a black case which was sitting on the passenger's seat. The jewelry was inside.

The three suspects then fled in what was described as a four-door, gray or metallic colored, newer model Nissan Altima or Sentra, the Daily Press reports. The car was last seen heading north on 21st Street.
