Pregnant Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -- A Palm Springs woman was in jail Thursday on suspicion of running over a woman who was eight months pregnant, killing her and her unborn child, and then leaving the scene, police said.

Danica Denton, 18, who was eight months pregnant, was walking west on East Palm Canyon Drive near Van Fleet Avenue when she was struck by a silver Lexus about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office.

She and her unborn child were pronounced dead about an hour later at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Haas said.

Gina Garcia was later arrested, said Cathedral City police Lt. Glen Haas.

No details were immediately available about the arrest.
