“Ramp Jam” at Sunset Set to End Monday

The reopened ramp will feature an additional right-turn lane onto Sunset towards UCLA, Westwood

“Ramp Jam” at Sunset Boulevard on the northbound 405 Freeway is set to end Monday as the off-ramp reopens after a 120-day closure, transportation officials said.

The ramp is scheduled to open at 6 a.m. and will provide an extra right-turn lane onto Sunset, according to Metro. The previous ramp had just one turn lane onto Sunset from each direction.

Metro officials said the extra turn lane onto eastbound Sunset will benefit commuters traveling to Westwood and UCLA-areas.

The updated ramp is 60 percent longer, segregating traffic from Sunset and the 405, officials said. About 9,600 vehicles use the off-ramp every day, Metro said.

Construction of an additional traffic lane on the northbound 405 will close the Montana Avenue off-ramp permanently Sunday.

The ramp work is part of the three-year, $1 billion widening and reconstruction of 10 miles of the 405 through the Sepulveda Pass. The project is one year behind schedule, but is expected to be completed in 2014.
