Cucamonga Councilman Caught in Cookie Jar

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- A Rancho Cucamonga city councilman has been arrested on charges of grand theft and misappropriating public funds while working for the San Bernardino County assessor's office.

The district attorney's office says Rex Gutierrez was arrested Wednesday and held on $45,000 bail.

The arrest of the 49-year old Gutierrez followed a six-month investigation into the San Bernardino County's assessor's office.
Gutierrez worked as the office's intergovernmental affairs officer.

In 2006, Gutierrez was re-elected to a third term on the City Council of Rancho Cucamonga.

District attorney's spokeswoman Susan Mickey declined to provide details on the case.
