Repair Shop Regulators Respond to “Under the Hood”

The Bureau of Automotive Repair encourages Californians to file complaints against bad mechanic shops

State officials are taking interest in NBC4’s I-Team hidden camera report that showed some Jiffy Lube locations taking customers for a ride.

Officials will the California Bureau of Automotive Repair said they had watched Joel Grover’s report on the chain, saying such reports are often treated “like a consumer complaint that needs to be investigated.”

They spoke with Grover on Tuesday.

Part of the state Department of Consumer Affairs, the bureau seeks to ensure a fair and competitive auto repair market. It licenses and regulates repair shops and Smog Check stations.

The bureau encourages residents to file complaints against problematic automotive repair dealers and mechanic shops.

Consumers can file a complaint at the bureau’s website or by calling its Consumer Information Center at (800) 952-5210.
