Border Agents Collar “Most Wanted” Suspect

Riverside County homicide suspect arrested at U.S. border

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. -- A 23-year-old man wanted on several felony warrants, including an outstanding homicide warrant out of Riverside County, was apprehended this weekend by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, officials announced Monday.

On Saturday at 10:15 p.m., Jeffrey Berrouet was caught entering the United States as a pedestrian through the San Ysidro border station after he presented officers with his valid California driver's license and declared himself to be a citizen of the United States. CBP officers ran his name against law enforcement databases revealing Berrouet was listed as an armed and dangerous person.

Berrouet was taken into custody and escorted into the secondary area for further processing. Officers conducted a 10-print query of Berrouet's fingers utilizing the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, confirming his identity and that he was the subject of several active felony warrants.

Berrouet is wanted by the San Bernardino Sheriff's Office on a no-bail homicide warrant, the Riverside County Sheriff's office for a controlled substance warrant with $25,000 bail, and the FBI on a no-bail warrant for escape, homicide, kidnapping and battery.

A story about Jeffrey Berrouet was set to air on America's Most Wanted, but was canceled due to his capture.

"This apprehension is a direct result of frontline CBP officers conducting complete primary inspections including name queries on suspect individuals," said Oscar Preciado, Port Director of the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa border stations. "Just last week during a five-day period, officers apprehended 35 wanted individuals with felony warrants."

Berrouet was held until he was transferred to the custody of detectives with the Barstow Police Department.
