Repeat DUI Offender Sentenced for Deadly 2017 Christmas Day Crash

A repeat DUI offender was sentenced Thursday to 13 years in state prison for a 2017 Christmas morning crash in Rosemead that left his passenger dead.

Adam Alexander Chacon, 35, of San Gabriel, pleaded no contest Dec. 12 to a felony voluntary manslaughter count and one misdemeanor count each of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury within 10 years of another DUI offense and taking a vehicle without consent.

Chacon made an unsafe turn and crashed into a tree while driving near Valley Boulevard and Brookline Avenue last Dec. 25, according to police and prosecutors.

His passenger, Justin Hansen, 25, died at a hospital.

Chacon was also transported for hospital treatment and was arrested two days later by sheriff's deputies. He has remained behind bars since then.
