Filmmaker Alexandra Kerry, daughter of Senator John Kerry, was arrested Thursday in Hollywood on suspicion of drunk driving.
The 36-year-old producer/director was arrested about 12:40 a.m., booked for DUI and released about 5 a.m. after posting $5,000 bail, said Los Angeles police Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations office.
TMZ.com reported that Kerry was arrested by officers after she allegedly "violated a traffic law which got their attention. They then conducted a field sobriety test and it appeared she was under the influence of an intoxicant. She was then placed under arrest."
"At that point, cops asked her to take a preliminary alcohol screening test in the field, but she refused," TMZ reported. "Cops took her to the station and then conducted a formal blood alcohol test, which showed a level of .06."
Under California law, the legal limit is .08, but a driver can still be prosecuted -- even under a .08 reading -- if the vehicle is being operated unsafely due to alcohol.
