Suspected El Segundo Arsonist Arrested

Police say the suspect was caught on surveillance camera as she set fire to patio furniture near a series of suspicious blazes

A suspected serial arsonist believed to be behind several El Segundo blazes, including two inside churches, was arrested Tuesday morning following a traffic stop, police said.

The woman suspected of setting the fires was caught on surveillance camera near fires set in the 400 block of Main Street. She was seen on the video setting fire to patio furniture, according to the El Segundo Police Department.

Three separate fires were set early Sunday morning.

The suspect is described as between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall with dark brown or black shoulder-length hair. Investigators believe she is between 55 and 65 years old. She was wearing a white tank top, dark colored pants and dark colored flat shoes in the surveillance video.

The identity of the woman arrested has not been released, but investigators believe it is the woman seen on the surveillance video.
