Sheriff's Deputy Dies in Crash With Suspected DUI Driver

A San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy was killed in an early morning crash in Chino on Sunday. The driver of another vehicle involved in the crash was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter, according to the department.

Nicholas O'Loughlin was off duty at the time of the crash, which occurred shortly after midnight. He joined the department in 2017 and was assigned to the West Valley Detention Center.

"Nicholas left a positive impression on his friends and co-workers and will be deeply missed," the department said in a statement. O'Loughlin is survived by his father Bill, mother Crystal and brother Jonathan.

The driver arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated  and DUI causing injury was identified by police as 26-year-old Yijie Mao. It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
