Simple Act Turns Into Tragedy

A 15-year-old boy was killed Thursday night when he and another person were struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Leimert
Park.

The crash was reported at 5:35 p.m. at the intersection of 50th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

According to witnesses, a compact sport utility vehicle hit two people as they crossed the street, Humphrey said.

The 15-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other victim, described only as male, was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, Humphrey said.

Humphrey described the male SUV driver as ``clearly shaken,'' but said he was uninjured. He remained at the scene and was being questioned by police.

Northbound traffic on Crenshaw Boulevard was closed at 50th Street during the investigation. Traffic in the immediate area was also being
rerouted.
