“My Brother Did Not Deserve to Die This Way”: $50K Reward in Navy Vet’s Deadly Hollywood Attack

A Los Angeles city councilman proposed a $50,000 reward on Wednesday to find the person who fatally attacked a Navy veteran at a famed Hollywood intersection.

The attack happened in September near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue where police say a man came toward and punched 54-year-old Louie Rodriguez as he was going home from the Sunset Strip Music Festival on his mobility scooter.

"We cannot stand by and look the other way and tolerate such an obvious, terrible act of aggression," said LA City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, who proposed the reward.

Los Angeles police said Rodriguez fell from his scooter and hit his head on the ground, while the attacker ran away.

Rodriguez died at the hospital.

"My brother did not deserve to die this way. He was full of life. He had a long life to live still," said Rodriguez’s sister Tina.

Detectives described the attacker as a man about 23 years old, 6 feet tall and lean, wearing ear ornaments that stretch out a person's earlobes, or ear gauges. Surveillance images were released Wednesday of two people sought in connection with the attack.
