1 Killed, 5 Hurt in Sunland Crash

Police said speed appeared to be a factor in a multi-car crash that left one person dead and five others injured in Sunland on Monday night.

About 8:15 p.m., a 1987 Toyota 4Runner veered into oncoming traffic on the Foothill Boulevard bridge near Foothill Place and collided with a pickup truck, officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The driver of the 4Runner died at the scene. One passenger was critically hurt and four others suffered moderate injuries, police said.

None of them were wearing seatbelts, according to police.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, police said.

Police were also investigating whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Officials initially said there were seven victims, but later changed that figure to six.
