The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Friday for the 23rd consecutive day, decreasing three-tenths of a cent to $3.575, its lowest amount since March 26.

The average price has dropped 12.5 cents over the past 23 days, including a half-cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 2.6 cents less than one week ago, 14.5 cents lower than one month ago and 4.7 cents below what it was one year ago despite rising 18.4 cents since the start of the year.

The Orange County average price dropped for the 24th time in 25 days, decreasing eight-tenths of a cent to $3.548, its lowest amount since March 26. It has dropped 12.6 cents over the past 25 days, including one-tenth of a cent on Thursday.

As the average gas prices continue to climb some motorists have been searching to get more bang for their buck. Gordon Tokumatsu reports for the NBC4 News on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.

The Orange County average price is 3 cents less than one week ago, 13.6 cents lower than one month ago and 1.2 cents below what it was one year ago. It has risen 19.9 cents since the start of the year.

"The California Energy Commission last week reported a drop in gasoline inventory after refineries scaled back California fuel production, but on Wednesday the commission reported that inventory is back up, so there is still reason for prices to continue decreasing," said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
