Driver Arrested After Pursuit in South El Monte

A driver of a stolen car was arrested after leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit on surface streets in South El Monte on Tuesday night, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials said.

The pursuit began about 9:22 p.m. on the southbound 605 Freeway at Montebello Boulevard as the driver hit speeds of 100 mph, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver made his way to South El Monte, where he drover in opposite lanes, nearly struck a car in cross-traffic and circled a neighborhood where people had come out to catch a glimpse of the pursuit.

The man drove into a mobile home park, where he was blocked by a sheriff's cruiser. He was taken into custody without incident.
